Independent Bookstore Day & Annie Bloom's Update

Update on Annie Bloom's Books

Thank You for Your Continued Support!

In this extremely challenging year, we here at Annie Bloom's are more grateful than ever for you, our loyal customers. Some of you have been shopping with us since longtime owner Bobby Tichenor first opened the store in 1978, across the street from our present location; others have only recently discovered us. Either way, we appreciate your concern for the bookstore and its future.

We want you to know that Annie Bloom's is here for the long haul.

We have livestream author events booked through the fall, we're taking pre-orders for winter releases, and we're already planning which books we'll feature for our Holiday Shopping display!

Many of you have asked when we plan to reopen our doors to browsing. While we don't have a definite opening date yet, we are continually assessing the situation and are carefully making upgrades to the store. We're improving air filtration and are investigating different ways to display books, cards, and calendars to best accommodate in-store foot traffic. The conversation is ongoing, and we would love nothing more than to welcome our customers back inside, because ...

We sure do miss you guys! We love talking about books and want to do everything we can to keep your reading lives vibrant and well-informed. If you want book recommendations, we want to hear from you. Our staff is at the store every day from 10am to 6pm to answer the phone, reply to emails, and process online orders.

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country. This year, the folks behind IBD have organized a fantastic day of online events. See the lineup below. Beginning at 10am on Saturday, Annie Bloom's will also begin selling a wonderful collection of exclusive books and literary items. Here's a preview of just a few of those items, also below. Check out our website that morning for all the fun goodies!

Exclusive Books and Literary Items:
You Have Arrived at Your Destination: An exclusive SIGNED short story
by Amor Towles

A near-future science fiction story from the author of A Gentleman in Moscow. When Sam's wife first tells him about Vitek, a twenty-first-century fertility lab, he sees it as the natural next step in trying to help their future child get a "leg up" in a competitive world. But the more Sam considers the lives that his child could lead, the more he begins to question his own relationships and the choices he has made in his life.
Poems of Resistance, Poems of Hope

Without hope, resistance has no objective. The media is saturated with uncareful language. In poetry, we find precision, peculiarity, and potential. Poems strive less for answers than enliven our questions. The poets in Poems of Resistance, Poems of Hope, take up these questions with with an eye for what's possible. These poems break open the human spirit, and remind us that through language, community, and art, the endeavor for empathy is not lost. Resistance and hope are alive, in the world, and on the page. Poets included: Joy Harjo, Jericho Brown, Yusef Komunyakaa, Louise Gluck, Richard Blanco, Arthur Sze, Ada Limon, Eve. L Ewing, Camonghne Felix, José Olivarez, Morgan Parker, Ariana Reines, Hanif Abdurruqib, Jake Skeets, and many more.
