Holiday Giving Tree Book Drive
Place a book in the hands of a child this holiday season.
"A book is a gift you can open again and again."- Garrison Keillor
Annie Bloom’s Books is hosting its annual Giving Tree book drive this holiday season for children served by several local non-profit organizations: Community Transitional School, Neighborhood House, Raphael House of Portland, and SMART (Start Making A Reader Today).
You are invited to stop by the store to make a donation. There are three ways you can contribute:
- Purchase and donate a book at a 10% discount.
- Make a cash donation. A donation of $5.00 helps buy one book for a participating child.
- Donate your Reader Rewards coupon. If you are part of our Reader Rewards program, you may choose to donate your coupon (which you are welcome to do all year round).
Community Transitional School is a private school dedicated to children whose families are homeless, in transition and experiencing chronic poverty-related crises. The school has a daily enrollment of over 80 students. Ages range from 5 to 14. This year classroom teachers have selected specific titles for students to be included in family holiday gift baskets. Books are needed by December 14.
Neighborhood House, Multnomah Village’s own social service agency, has requested books for children served through the Neighborhood House Parenting Program. The Parenting Program provides free culturally and developmentally appropriate services for families to help promote the healthy growth and development of their children. Books for ages birth through 6 are needed by December 31.
Raphael House of Portland is a multi-faceted domestic violence agency dedicated to ending intimate partner violence for good. Every year more than 115 local families visit the Raphael House Holiday Program to pick out gifts for each other. Book donations for all ages are needed by December 6. Website:www.raphaelhouse.com
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) matches community volunteers with kindergarten through 3rd grade students in low income public elementary schools throughout Oregon for one-on-one reading support. Each participating SMART student receives two new books a month to take home and keep. Donated books will supplement giveaway and permanent book collections in Portland area schools. A donation guideline and recommended titles list is available for those who wish to donate a book.
Thank you for supporting children in our community this holiday season!
