Annie Bloom's Books welcomes back Portland author Sher Davidson for an in-store reading from the 50th Anniversary Edition of her book Europe with Two Kids and a Van, Travel Memoir and Guide.
About Europe with Two Kids and a Van, Travel Memoir and Guide:
The 50th Anniversary Edition will help families who dream of traveling in Europe on a limited budget, taking the kids on an adventure from which they will learn more about the world, geography, social customs and mores, than what they learn in the classroom. It not only tells how one family did it many years ago, but how to do it today in this changing world. The book outlines not only what to see, historic places of interest, but also, the lesser-known sites. It also updates the information as to campsites in various countries, food specialties, road rules, and other helpful information for those who want to travel by camper van or rent a mobile home.
Europe with Two Kids and a Van is both memoir and guide, filled with entertaining stories of the Davidson family's adventures camping in nine countries with two young children for six months. As relevant today as back in 1973 stories of travels in a VW van for $10 a day will delight wishful travelers with kids. With updated information and budget-wise suggestions, it inspires readers to not postpone their dreams of travel but to make it a family affair now. Take the Leap––Enjoy the Odyssey.
Sher Davidson wrote her first book, Europe with Two Kids and a Van, in 1973. Following that she had no time to write as she raised her two daughters and started and ran a jewelry design business for the next eighteen years. Subsequently, Sher pursued a career in the arts, working as a painter, sculptor and teaching art to children and adults. Later she and her husband did humanitarian aid work in El Salvador. They moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where Sher studied writing at the annual San Miguel Writers Conference. Her Salvadoran experiences inspired her second book, a novel, Under the Salvadoran Sun. In 2017 Sher and her husband started an NGO, https://latinamericanrelieffund.org, to help support a shelter for refugees and migrants. Sher has received awards for her art and teaching, and has enjoyed a life filled with travel to many parts of the world. She now shares a home with her husband near Portland, Oregon and their two daughters and grandchildren. She has recently published her third book, historical fiction inspired by her Swedish heritage, Dark Secrets: A Legacy of Memories from 1939 Sweden.
