Reading: Friends of Mystery: Elle Marr and Valerie Geary

Annie Bloom's Books, in collaboration with Friends of Mystery's Bloody Thursday lecture series, welcomes Pacific Northwest authors Elle Marr and Valerie Geary. The event will be moderated by Portland author Dana Haynes (aka, James Byrne).

About The Alone Time:

For two sisters, confronting the past could come at a terrible price in a riveting novel about a family tragedy––and family secrets. Fiona and Violet Seng were just children when their family's Cessna crash-landed in the Washington wilderness, claiming the lives of their parents. For twelve harrowing weeks, the girls fended for themselves before being rescued. Twenty-five years later, they're still trying to move on from the trauma. Fiona repurposes it into controversial works of art. Violet has battled addiction and failed relationships to finally progress toward normalcy as a writer. The estranged sisters never speak about what they call their Alone Time in the wild. They wouldn't dare––until they become the subject of a documentary that renews public fascination with the "girl survivors" and questions their version of the events. When disturbing details about the Seng family are exposed, a strange woman claims to know the crash was deliberate. Fiona and Violet must come together to face the horrifying truth of what happened out there and what they learned about their parents and themselves. Before any other secrets emerge from the woods.

Elle Marr is the bestselling author of six thrillers. Her latest book, The Alone Time, has been called "twisted, with clever plotting" and "a finale that will surprise even the most perceptive readers." Originally from Sacramento, Elle graduated from UC San Diego before moving to France, where she earned a master's degree from the Sorbonne University in Paris. She now lives and writes in Oregon with her family.

About The Ophelia Killer:

An elusive killer outwits police. When a crime reporter connects the dots, the hunter becomes the hunted. Reporter Jimmy Eagan knows a good story when he sees one. After another young woman is found dead near Salem, Oregon, clutching a bouquet of wildflowers, Jimmy is certain there's a serial murderer on the loose. He's even given the man a nickname: The Ophelia Killer. But the police don't seem interested in Jimmy's theories, and the primary detective is treating Jimmy like a suspect. After nearly a year with no new leads and the police looking in all the wrong places, Jimmy must track down the real killer before he claims another victim.

Valerie Geary is the author of the Brett Buchanan Mystery Series in addition to Everything We Lost and Crooked River, which was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband where they enjoy hiking favorite trails and discovering new ones together. She's an avid reader and loves connecting with other readers on her YouTube channel Valerie Geary's Book Nook.

Novelist Dana Haynes has spent more than 20 years in Oregon newspaper newsrooms, split between weeklies and dailies. He has won awards as a reporter, columnist and editor. A native of the Pacific Northwest, he also served as spokesman for the mayor of Portland, Oregon. He is the author of multiple thrillers, including––under the pseudonym James Byrne––Deadlock (A Dez Limerick Novel #2).
