Staff Reviews

A compelling debut collection of short stories (ten years in the making!) that focuses on familial relationships in realities/worlds that are slightly shifted from our own. The writing is very good with sentences that seem like they would be the opening lines of poems scattered throughout. The pieces are mildly unsettling in the best way possible: they allow you to feel conflicted within their fictional families to make you reassess the relationships you have within your own. Salman Rushdie selected the titular story to be in The Best American Short Stories of 2008.
